Mesothelioma is a very aggressive form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. About 20 percent of asbestos cancer caused by  peritoneal mesothelioma. This form of cancer occurs in the mesothelial cells of the abdomen, when asbestos fibers are embedded into the space between the cells. This can be between 20 to 50 years shall occur for the symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma.

During these years, the asbestos fibers irritate the parietal layer that covers the cavity of the stomach and they start to produce cancer cells. Fluid builds and eventually form tumors.
